Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are carried out in various ways, with different reasons, but they are always aimed at the same targets. All server types are subjected to such attacks, which can render services and shots temporarily or permanently unavailable for their intended users. Anti DDoS Guardian can protect servers against such threats, as the name clearly points out. The software monitors incoming connections like a firewall, but due to its advanced capabilities, it can also flag suspicious behavior and block DDoS attacks before they can do any damage. It gives you full control over its features, so you may customize your protection system however you want.

Anti DDoS Guardian is free to try for five days, but without any functionality restrictions. It works on Windows Server 2003 and all later editions, up to Win Server 2012, as well as classical versions, like Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8. The software can be installed fast and it does not ask for too much memory or processing power.

Incoming and outgoing connections are displayed in a list, on the main user interface, along with a wide range of information, like the amount of sent and received bytes, local and remote IP addresses and so on. When launched for the first time, Anti DDoS Guardian will guide you through a series of initial configurations. In other words, it is sufficient to run the program and let it work in the background, but you can make all sorts of configurations to its behavior, to suit your personal needs.

Anti-DDoS settings can be made on a tabbed window. You can set up a maximum number of TCP incoming connections per second, as well as a maximum number of current TCP connections for client IP addresses. The software can be set to mark IP addresses as suspicious, if their corresponding clients attempt to request a connection for too many times. It is also possible to set a maximum number of incoming TCP current half-open connections, to allocate a maximum bandwidth to client IPs or to impose a maximum number of client IPs.

The software comes with a list of nearly 500 IP addresses. It automatically blocks incoming packets if they match an IP from the list, but you can also set it to block everything except packets from the aforementioned IPs. You can add your own addresses or ranges to the list, import existing lists and set up exceptions.

Pros

Anti DDoS Guardian can monitor incoming connections to your server and detect suspicious activity. It can block packets according to a series of rules, which you can define. The software is quite flexible when it comes to setting up rules and exceptions.

Cons

The trial version is available only for 5 days. Regardless of what type of server you manage, Anti DDoS Guardian will help you protect it against brute force password guessing attacks, IP floods and any other type of attack.
